GG’s Foot Guards mark one hundred and fiftieth anniversary with Freedom of the Metropolis march

Heads had been swivelling within the downtown space Saturday because the Governor Common’s Foot Guards marched to rejoice the regiment’s sesquicentennial within the capital.

Based in 1872, the reserve infantry regiment had been first granted Freedom of the Metropolis in 1972.

The esteemed, however symbolic designation, permits the unit to “march by means of the streets with drums beating, colors flying and bayonets mounted.”

Mayor Jim Watson was available to formally grant the Foot Guards Freedom of town.
